Predator Urine

Coyotes, foxes and bobcats are big-time eaters of prey animals like deer, squirrels, chipmunks, mice, rats, shrews, voles, possums, javelinas, armadillos, elk rabbits, groundhogs, woodchucks, raccoons, skunks and cats.  So when predator urine is around prey animals high tail it out of there for fear of being eaten. Prey animals have very delicate sense of smell so a modest amount of predator urine spread around a yard is perfectly inoffensive to people while scaring the willies out of prey animals. If you need to protect an area that contains enticing food (vegetable gardens, garbage) prey animals may have an ongoing incentive to explore–which may cause them to realize there are no predators, and so in time they may learn to ignore the smell.
